Oklahoma’s Last Stop [Article]

I grew up in Oklahoma, which means I grew up flipping through the pages of Oklahoma Today magazine. I have a feature in its latest issue on the Oklahoma Panhandle, a dream trip I took with my 76-year-old uncle last fall. It’s one of my favorite things I’ve done, or written.

UPDATE: This piece won Solas Awards’ “bronze” for best destination story, as announced in March 2017. Neat.

This is so good! Sticking with your uncle was the right decision (and brought a little tear to my eye). Thanks for sharing this place I hadn’t thought much about before – on the map or in real life.

Thanks! I’ve wanted to spend some real time in the panhandle for nearly 20 years. So I just sort of made it happen. Luckily enough found a place to write about it. The future of travel will increasingly be about places like this — the last places. I think?

    I agree with your Robert.

In today’s digital and online world, the old favourites are simply too well known by now. The element of surprise is gone with the ‘Best’ and ‘Most Visited’ places.

Now and in the future, I think people are going to be more interested to reading about and exploring lesser known places like the Oklahoma Panhandle.

I enjoyed reading your article. Good job!
